Capt.
Sean O'Keefe has lived in Key West for over 27 years. He
has been fishing the flats and backcountry of the lower keys
and Key West year round as a fully licensed full time professional
guide for 20 years. Backwater Fishing (the business) was
established in 1988. His boat (Backwater), is a comfortable
17 foot Custom Action Craft powered with a Mercury 150 HP
Opti-Max outboard motor. The fully-insured boat is suitable
for the Captain and up to two anglers.
When fishing the backcountry and flats of Florida Bay,
we use top-of-the-line Thomas & Thomas fly rods and Daiwa
spinning and plug casting tackle. We will mainly fish for
the following species:
- Tarpon
- Bonefish
- Permit
- Barracuda
- Shark

- Speckled Sea Trout
- Pompano
- Snapper
- Grouper

While fishing, we will primarly employ the method of poling
the boat while stocking and sight casting the shallows. We
will either fly cast, spin cast, plug cast or use live bait,
depending on the preference of the angler.
